BB2. Pump Casing Casting with Duplex Steel Material

The Application of Duplex Steel in Pump Casings
Duplex stainless steel (DSS) is commonly used for manufacturing pump casings that require corrosion resistance and high strength, such as desulfurization pumps, slurry pumps, and seawater pumps, due to its combination of the toughness and corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel with the high strength and chloride stress corrosion cracking resistance of ferritic stainless steel.
Typical grades: 2205, 2507, super duplex stainless steel (e.g., 2605, CR30A), etc.
Advantages: Compared to ordinary austenitic stainless steel (such as 304/316L), duplex stainless steel offers higher strength, superior wear and corrosion resistance, making it particularly suitable for chloride-containing environments.

Material selection: If the BB2 pump casing is used in corrosive environments such as chemical, seawater desalination, or desulfurization, the manufacturer may choose duplex stainless steel (such as 2205 or 2507) to improve durability.
Manufacturing process: The pump casing is usually precision cast (such as lost foam casting) to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface smoothness, reducing subsequent machining.

Duplex Steel is an ideal material for manufacturing high-performance pump casings, especially suitable for working conditions with severe corrosion and wear. If the BB2 pump casing is used in such an environment, using duplex stainless steel (such as 2205/2507) is a reasonable choice.
